DAVENPORT, Iowa - Tonight, the community got a chance to hang out and talk with Davenport Police officers.

It was the second annual Cops and Cones event at Vander Veer Park.

It was the perfect day to grab something cold to eat because who doesn't love ice cream, especially when it's free.

"This year we bought 60 gallons if we run out of that I don`t know what we`ll do. Last year we ran out and had to go on a second run," said Sergeant Eric Gruenhagen.

The Davenport Police Department picked up the tab. The event is a way to build a stronger relationship between officers and the people they serve.

"Today we`re promoting peace and investing in our community by saying 'hey come out and see us we`re here,'" said Sgt. Gruenhagen

It gives residents the chance to get to know police officers on a more personal level

"This is a way for the public to realize you know police officers are human beings too," said Sgt, Gruenhagen.

The Davenport Police Department holds fundraisers throughout the year to pay for the event.
