Friends of Veterans Memorial Park has been selected as the October recipient of Eriksen Chevrolet’s Three Degree Guarantee.
For each day of the month that the actual temperature is within three degrees of the forecasted high temperature, Vettes on the River will receive $20 from Eriksen Chevrolet in Milan, Illinois. Each night, the WQAD Storm Track 8 team will predict the next day’s high temperature. The forecasted temperatures are compared to the actual temperatures recorded by the National Weather Service.
The Friends of Veterans Memorial Park committee is in the process of developing the Veterans Memorial Park in downtown Davenport. Located along the Mississippi River at South Marquette Street, this is the first and only public memorial in Davenport with the goal of honoring veterans from a regional perspective. Phase two of the park development includes building an elevated river overlook, a 40 foot military mural and an expanded walking trail with educational signage. These signs will explain the different branches of the military and provide information on the history of the Rock Island Arsenal. The monument and other park features will be accessible to all community members, especially veterans who may have a physical disability or impaired mobility.
